Canada’s clean energy future doesn’t include the Northern Gateway oil sands pipeline

Like many Canadians, we’re deeply disappointed that the federal government has decided to proceed with the Northern Gateway twinned pipeline project despite increasing opposition from people across Canada, including First Nations and a majority of British Columbians.

Building the Northern Gateway pipeline is out of step with what scientific evidence is telling us: We need to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions over the next several decades, not further increase our reliance on dirty fossil fuels.

British Columbia and Canada have too much to lose. B.C.’s rich coastal ecosystems are at risk from a pipeline that will carry heavy oil across rivers and streams and onto supertankers travelling coastal waters.

While a decision has been made, the conversation hasn’t ended. We can expect court challenges and actions from those whose concerns have so far been ignored.

Together our voices will be heard. Let our national government leaders know that you want a responsible energy future, not a dirty pipeline.
